How I missed this is beyond me. I follow James Fahy’s music dairy closely, my only explanation for leaving his album slip through the net is having Christmas shenanigans with friends who came to visit me in Cambodia. Anyhow, I’ll get on with it…

Ambienteer gifts us with an 8 track album of wondrous ambient music entitled ‘Ataraxia‘. While listening I find myself gently surrounded by warm and affectionate sounds. The opening track ‘Atraxia’ gracefully prepares you for the rest of your journey. Even after being submerged by the sometimes tenebrous streams of ‘augment’, ‘reclamation’ and ‘barium falling’, I realize I’m exhilarated equally by them as the brighter ‘music box’ or the last track ‘coeur en hiver’. James has masterfully predetermined your destination by painting a picturesque world using a palette of resonance, harmony and reverberations. Amazing stuff.

Tenacious material expertly crafted by a purveyor of the finest ambient creations, ‘Ataraxia‘ is a must have.

If Phuture and Adamski sold their possessed 303s and Junos to bass crazed space invaders from another dimension, this is what the alien transmission might sound like. Actually, Hyper Typewriter would sound better.

wAgAwAga employs earth-shaking bass-lines and a near fanatical use of intricate acid tweaking. The 303 programming is complex and keeps you constantly engaged. If you thought acid lines are out of fashion, think again. Four tracks in, the energetic ‘Daisy Town Acid’ as the name would suggest, delivers a mass of spiralling transistor bass. One tends to concentrate so much on the delicious 303 tweaking, it’s easy to forget about the clever programming and constant alterations. ‎ ‘Kitchqoorredux’ radiates the best elements of electro & breakbeat, accelerating you in a positive whirlwind of bass, wicked snares and acid stabs.

The album evolves smoothly, cheery picking elements of dub, electro, drum & bass and moulding them into a pristine package. Hyper Typewriter is a 95 minute roller coaster ride with generous amounts of deep sub bass, staggering beats, melodic highs and contains tracks for every occasion, including dance floor stormers to more laid back dub numbers. I love wAgAwAgA’s unique style and his fantastic production. I imagine other producers will be revisiting ‘finished’ tracks, while others will be scrambling to fire up a 303. Buy a copy, it’s well worth it. Another top flight release on Acroplane – available on Monday the 28th of February.

Here’s some exciting new music about to coming in for a smooth landing:

First in the holding pattern is the rising star Eomac who will soon grace us with a new EP entitled ‘Battery Baby’. It’s getting increasingly difficult to lock Eomac down to one genre which is a good thing. I guess this EP could be described as an amalgamation of dark and dirty baselines, rave-o-matic riffs and breakbeat stylings. This will be Eomac’s inaugural release on Invisible Agent and will be available in all good download stores worldwide in August.

Remixes are ready and mastered for John Dalton’s well received techno production ‘fifteen’. This EP has diverse remixes by Danseizure, Eomac and Ebauche. It was always going to be difficult to top John’s original output, but I am sure you’ll be as impressed as I was when I first heard these distinct and fresh re-works by fellow Invisible Agent producers. This EP is bound to send x-ray machines in to overload. More information coming soon…

Last but not least is Danseizure who’s weighed in with some heavy cargo. Known to hang out at the Forest Record Collective counter, Dan Gorman has produced experimental soundscapes and scores for several years. This Dan’s 3rd album to be released on Invisible Agent Records and I’m very excited about his latest body of work. As always, Dan’s sounds are meticulously crafted and will leave you mesmerized. Touch down of these releases is imminent, stayed tuned to cash in on your frequent flier miles.

Warren Daly’s first EP, Epokhe, has just received an extremely strong review from DJ Mag which you can read below.

If you’d like to check it out, head on over to the Epokhe release page for details on where to get it!

Warren Daly – Epokhe EP (Invisible Agent)

Daly has released tracks before on his Invisible Agent label, but ‘Epokhe’ is his most accomplished record so far. Combining grungy, cavernous bass with sensuous melodies and sweet chords, ‘Ocean’ sets the tone for the rest of the EP.

‘Praha’ and ‘Unnamed Souls’ are jaw-droppingly beautiful arrangements, the glistening melodies accompanied by languid breaks. Not even Ebauche’s denser version of ‘Praha’ can detract from the sublime mood.

Dance music seems to be in flux these days. Yes, dance music is probably as popular as ever, but it has never really stationed itself in the mainstream. The truly innovative dance music remains underground, and perhaps always will. Dance albums seem to becoming a rare thing these days. With the rise of the digital realm, EP’s seem the way of the future. Little nuggets of creativity hat can be bought easily and cheaply. Surprising then, that a mainly underground producer from Ireland had released a long player that was starting to receive rave reviews from some dance music heavyweights. It did dawn on me that perhaps a self styled marketing wheel was in full flow….surely the album couldn’t live up to the hype?

Simply put, it does. I am sure long nights, days and months were put into its creation, and the results show it. Definitely not a mainstream club album, this is one for the long drive up north, the way back home from the latest head cleansing gig, or even in your house as you stoke up the fire. It may not be the album that gets the party crawling on the ceiling, but it is definitely the one that can get the blood running a little smoother, or the head cooled gently, on the long road home to sobriety.

The stand out track, Careful What you Wish For, currently offered free from www.seedyr.com, is a perfectly constructed piece of music. From the humorous, yet socially adept intro, to the way in which the track floats along, nestled on a bed of crisply produced strings and deep, driving percussive elements.
Don’t be fooled into thinking this album is a one hit wonder, it’s not. You may feel that the strings are perhaps too dominant throughout the album, but on listening, it becomes obvious that this is what Edwin wanted. This album is a departure from his more Electro orientated first album, We Are Electronix, and moves into the realm of true, deep, emotional House music. It is an album that combines the organic with the synthetic in a way that is not commercial, un-classy or clustered. It is a testament to the creativity which lurks in Ireland at the moment and a testament to the rising star that is Corrugated Tunnel.
