Sunken Foal has released a new 6-track EP titled “Mother of God”on Acroplane

Boomkat review: Two years after their well-received Planet Mu album, Sunken Foal return with six tracks for Acroplane. ‘Mother Of God’ finds their sound at a juncture of Alex Smoke-like, Autechre-referencing electronica in ‘Low Mountain Light Socket’ and the mercury fuming synths and quickstep syncopations of ‘Gift Knee Pads’, while ‘Colloidal Glass’ is a glassy IDM configuration and ‘Platforms’ like some swaggering Gescom beat. Ace.

Another excellent review for Corrugated Tunnel in this month’s DJ Mag.

Ed James drops his most techno-oriented release to date, with the intricate, contemporary percussion dovetailing with old school bleep-bass and heavy Chicago claps.

The remixers push ‘TBrox’ further down the experimental techno wormhole, with veteran producer Dave Tarrida’s broken, crunchy drums, messy percussion and scorched earth bass just about out-gunning Ikeaboy’s evil acid bass re-rub.

Off the wall, but lethal when used in the right environment. RB

Ikeaboy picks Andrea Parker – Freaky Bitches (Touching Bass) as his Dancefloor Destroyer.

It’s been out for a good while but it’ll always be fresh. “Freaky Bitches” ticks all the boxes. It’s got bass that’ll push you over and kneel on your chest, a low-slung groove and booty style guest vocals from DJ Assault and DJ Godfather. Parker does atmospherics like no other and this is a brooding dark affair with classic production that will never date.

Following Decal’s EP earlier this year on Invisible Agent, Ikeaboy drops an EP that covers underground electro’s many sounds. Apart from the ambient intro ‘flashdead’, there’s the tight, bleepy breaks of ‘Palletscrap’ and the Detroit chords of ‘Bypass Naas Bass’. Ikeaboy also has a fondness for craniun-splitting basslines and the malevolent, lunging bass of ‘Yellow Metal’, as well as Warren Daly’s ominous version of the same track, is the stuff that the worst nightmares are made of.

Damian Tubbritt aka Ikeaboy has been threatening to do a record like this for a long time. While his appetite for powerful electro bass in previous outings has been clear, this time he has set the record straight beyond any doubt. Including a ghoulish, dub shaking remix from Sir Real and a sinister dancefloor interpretation from label boss Warren Daly, it’s the weird jerking feel of ghetto paced tracks like “Pallet Scrap” and “Yellow Metal”, that make this a secret weapon for bass freaks everywhere. An Irish release that deserves your attention, this is storming stuff.

The original version isn’t available on this release, but Edwin James’s combination of austere chords with vocal snippets and a spiralling acid climax proves that remixes aren’t always meant as a secondary consideration. RB
