Bassline Mix

I’ll keep it short, a bit like the mix. I glide through 13 tracks in 40 minutes. I’m about to give up on classifying my mixes, since I’ve been overusing the terms ‘electronica’ and ‘ambient’ over the past 3 years. This mix contains some glitch, dubby techno, electronica, dubstep… what do they all have in common. Bassline. Enjoy the mix and please leave comments below.

Sleep inducing podcast

Dedicated to the insomniacs, restless sleepers, and the sleep lovers of the world. This podcast was mixed at my home studio ‘on the fly’ and induced sleep to 100% of the audience. (Okay,there was only 2 people listening, but none the less it sounds impressive and the results speak for themselves). It’s a one hour chilled-out podcast featuring music from a range of talented artists signed to the best Netlabels in the World.

Recommendations & shares

A recent share on Twitter by @vuzhmusic allowed me to discover the AudioTong Netlabel and the layered and distorted guitar loops by Zubik. Darren Harper never ceases to amaze me, he captures so much light and positive energy in his production. As always I included more releases from BFW Recordings and FeedBackLoop, they truly are connoisseurs of fine music. Don’t forget about Ambienteer who has recently launched his 30th album, congratulations again James. The new Future Sequence compilation entitled Sequence3 is amazing and will most certainly feature heavily in my future mixes, another noteworthy Netlabel. Last but not least, Drew Miller a.k.a The Northern Hemisphere helps me fade out of the mix. I am looking forward to including tracks from his (5th) upcoming album. Exciting times. A one hour journey that starts out with some funky instrumental Hip Hop, followed by a generous helping of Dubstep, Breakbeat and electronica. I mix 18 tracks in just under 60 minutes and 6 of the tracks are from Invisible Agent. The first time I have included Fwonk, Phoke and Static Netlabels in my mix. Stables such as Cut Records and Dusted Wax are once again featured. I enjoyed including the very talented Ketsa and new Invisible Agent signing The Northern Hemisphere.

Happy New Year. I’ve blended 75 minutes of ambient soundscapes peppered with glitches and bleeps for your listening pleasure.

It’s an exciting month as I’ll be uploading a new, more beat orientated mix in the next two weeks and of couse more reviews on the way too. I have great news about new artists that will appear on Invisible Agent in 2012, stay tuned for more updates about upcoming Invisible Agent EPs.

Netlabel discoveries

Meander through space and time and you’ll arrive at a live electronics playground provided by Closer Contact & Meteer on the amazing BFW netlabel. Once again I can’t get enough from Cut Records, this time Bryn Thomas features along side regulars such as Ambienteer.  All the output on FeedbackLoop is a must have for any music collection. Blearmoon and Elias Merino are new discoveries and I’ll certainly be following up on any other releases they have.

Check out some fresh Netlabel goodness in this 14 track, 1 hour mix of bass heavy Dub, glitched out Electronica, Jazz and Hip Hop influenced breakbeat.

Excursions in to electronica

I was busy with various other projects in October. TEDx was the main focus of my attention, so I took some time off to reflect and build on my next live electronics project, hence the delay in getting this mix out in October. During this time I discovered some brilliant new Netlabels and very talented artists. Sweeping from Breakbeat, Ambient, minimal Techno and some more Jazz influenced gems.

Cut Records go from strength to strength with Bryn Thomas’s excellence ‘Feel for bumps’ EP.  Once again we’re treated to the fantastic talents of Ghost Kid and his  intriguing and well executed Electronica. Some conscious dub from the talented Dadub, all their tracks are phenomenal. Phillip Wilkerson winds things down with some washed out soundscapes, a kind of intermission before Ketsa has you feeling a little melancholic, during this time you should take a moment to reflect on the sheer quality of Netlabel and Creative Commons music. DML features in yet another mix of mine, I really wish I heard more from DML and of course the Grunfield netlabel, quality minimal Techno and Tech rollers. I await the next moves from all of these Netlabels.

Surround yourself with placid harmonies and glimmering exhalations in this 75 minute blend of field recordings, acoustic-electronic works and composition improvisation.

Influences

The talented James Fahy aka Ambienteer features several times in this mix, James is prolific and is constantly creating wonderful ambient tracks. James is a source of inspiration, spare a moment and check out his new album ‘luminous’. I cannot recommend it enough. Another influence and inspiration is Leonardo Rosado and the FeedbackLoop label. They constantly innovate and engage listeners with a range of amazing releases. Other influences include the Archaic Horizon Netlabel, they excite me as always and are prominent in this mix, artists Naono and Aeron feature 3 times. Top notch tunes.

New discoveries

I came across Widesky and Nobuto Suda by following Darren Harper’s bandcamp recommendations. In case you didn’t know, when you download an album from Bandcamp, the label owner can optionally suggest recommendations. Thanks Darren, amazing music and thanks again for the recommendations. I unearthed Darren Mcclure, Martijn Comes and Kyoto-based Takahiro Yorifuji aka hakobun e recently, all of their tracks shimmer and sparkle during the mix. Amazing works.

This mix is pretty eclectic. I kick off with a little drum and bass and drop in some memorizing electronica. Meandering though some broken beats, I bounce in some 4/4 with a few layers of deep and funky bass, rounding it all off with some wobbly dubstep. It was fun to mix, I hope you enjoy it.

My latest ambient mix features incredibly beautiful soundscapes created by extremely talented musicians and artists. I capture their interpretations of distance lights, twisted, stretched and compressed by space-time.
